康德說我們應該把人當作目的,而不是手段。
這是他的道德哲學的精神沒錯,但是確切的引言應該不是出於第二批判,
而是他為了向大眾介紹他自己的道德哲學而寫的《Groundwork for the Metaphysics of Morals》:
"The practical imperative will thus be the following:
Act so that you use humanity, as much in your own person as in the person of every other, always at the same time as an end and never merely as means." (GMM Ak4:429)
Never merely as means: You can never treat a person, include your self, merely as means. 你永遠不可以把一個人只當作手段。好像不與「你應該把人當作目的,不該把人當作手段」相悖?
應該把人當作目的,不該把人只當作手段,似乎不意味著可以部份地把人當作手段,假若我們用上述Henry Allison的英文翻譯來理解的話。這應該是翻譯問題?讀讀看:
1. 應該把人當作目的,而不只是手段。
2. You should treat a pseron as an end and never merely as means.
倘若把1改為:「應該把人當作目的,而絕非只是手段」會比較清楚。
