[Academic Activity][Medical Development] Academia Sinica's Lecture in Honor of Former President Ta-You Wu: Translational Research and Personalized Medicine (Chinese Version)

Academia Sinica Newsletter (2009/09/21) Academician Pan-Chyr YANG, Dean of National Taiwan University College of Medicine, will explore the connection between biomedical research, translational medicine and personalized medicine in a lecture entitled "Translational Research and Personalized Medicine" on September 26th, 2009, from 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm in honor of former Academia Sinica President Ta-You WU. The lecture will be delivered in Chinese.

The fundamental goal of biomedical research is to improve human health. Recent progress in biomedical sciences and genomic medicine has developed many new technologies and therapeutics that may potentially help to improve health care. In his lecture, Prof. YANG argues that the future physician may also need to realize that the personalized medicine is the ultimate goal of biomedical research.

Dr. YANG started his career as a physician at Taiwan National University Hospital in 1980 and has been teaching at the university since 1989. From 1984 to 1986 he was an Attending Physician at King Fahad Hospital, Hofuf, Saudi Arabia. In addition to his post as Dean of National Taiwan University College of Medicine, Prof. YANG also currently holds positions as Director, NTUH National Clinical Trial and Research Center; Adjunct Investigator at the National Health Research Institute; Distinguished Professor and Chair Professor at National Taiwan University. From 2002 to 2005 he was Director of the Advisory Office of the Ministry of Education. He was made an Academician in 2006.

Prof. YANG specializes in "cell biology and molecular biology", "lung cancer genetics and molecular carcinogenesis", and "pulmonary and critical care medicine".

Every year Academia Sinica holds lectures in honor of the late presidents of Academia Sinica. Dr. Ta-You WU was president of Academia Sinica from 1983 to 1994.
