[Wildlife Conservation] New Record: 1219 Black-faced Spoonbills Visit Taiwan (Chinese Version)

Now News (2009/11/08) & The Liberty Times (2009/11/09) Wildlife conservation groups in Tainan area conduct the second black-faced spoonbill census this year on 8th-November. The number of the black-faced spoonbills visiting Taiwan for overwintering has passed 1000 and arrived at 1219, which makes a new record.


According to the statistics, there are 916 black-faced spoonbills in Cigu Black-faed Spoonbill Protection Area, 115 in Tingshan, Cigu, 44 in North Fishpond Area (北漁塭區), Cigu, and 144 in Tainan Sihcao Protection Area. The number of the hibernating black-faced spoonbills has passed 1000, which also makes the average number of the hibernating black-faced spoonbills during the past four years beyond 1000, too. The number of the hibernating black-faced sponbills so far in this year has arrived at 1219, 68 more than the highest record on 11th-November, 2007, 1151, making a new record. The wildlife conservation activists are all happy with the news.
