[BioTech][Biodiversity] NTU Research Team Discovers Three Novel Species of Salt-resistant Microbes (Chinese Version)

Liberty Times (2009/06/07)NTU Biodiversity Center has discovered three novel species of extreme salt-resistant microbes in the salt pans in Tainan. The research team gives names to the novel species with the place names in Taiwan, and the findings are internationally recognized. After some further investigation, the results could be valuably applied to cosmeceutics, bio-techs, environmental industries and renewable energies.

The research team of NTU-Biodiversity Center investigates at the salt pans in the Tainan cost area, including Chi-gu (七股), Bei-men (北門) and Szu-tsao (四草) etc., and succeeds in dividing and denominating three novel species of microbes: Virgibacillus chiguensis sp. nov., Halomonas beimensis sp. nov. andMarinobacter szutsaonensis sp. nov. The three new kinds of microbes have been verified with the international novel species denomination procedure and the DNA physiological and biochemical properties study and matching, and the verification has been reviewed and recognized by Japan and Italy as well. The three species have been proved to be novel native species. The findings have been accepted and about to be made public by International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, and also approved by international Code of Nomenclature of Bacteria.
