[Sci-tech Policy][Industrial] Deep Sea Water Industry Emerges in East Taiwan (Chinese Version)

Commercial Times (2009/12/29) In order to develop the “blue-gold” industry in East Taiwan, three county governments including Taitung, Hualien and Yilan happen to present plans coincidently for developing deep sea water industrial parks or promoting the industry, added to which there has grown an expanding deep sea water industrial basis fronted by the companies including Lucky Cement Corporation's reinvestment DSW710 (東潤), Kung-Long Group's Deep Sea Water Resources Co. and Taiwan Yes Deep Ocean Water Co., Ltd., the joint-venture of Taiwan Fertilizer Co., Ltd. and Young Energy Source (Y.E.S.) Co., Ltd. The blue-gold industry has been emerging in East Taiwan.

It has been determined that the Deep Sea Water Research Park (trans. temp.) will be established in Taitung; the main production base is Hualien. One of the deep sea water companies also invest in building a resort zone, combining the blue-gold industry with tourism. Responding to the trend, three county governments including Yilan, Hualien and Taitung has made plans and budgets to promote the deep sea water industry.

Executive Yuan will also spend great effort on cultivating the deep sea water industry in East Taiwan. Council of Agriculture with the project of the “National Marine Germplasm Bank ” is going to build a 6.64 hectare site for the Taitung Branch in the north bank of Jhihben River. According to the Council of Agriculture, the project aims at nurturing high quality parental species and seedlings. The development project has begun and is estimated to complete in 2011. Besides, the 1.71 hectare Utilization of Low Temperature Sea Water and Multipurpose Technical R&D Model Plant, managed by the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs, is located near Taitung Deep Sea Water Industrial Park. Once the construction of the plant is completed, it is regarded to be the R&D and industrial center for the deep sea water applications in East Taiwan.
