[Environmental] National Chi Nan University's Sewage Treatment System Performs High Efficiency (Chinese Version)

CNA News, Public Television Service (2009/12/26) & China Times E-paper (2009/12/27) President Ying-jeou MA paid a visit to National Chi Nan University in Puli, Nantou, on 26th-December, inspecting the outstanding sewage treatment system, and declared war against drought together with Environmental Protection Administration Minister Stephen Shu-hung SHEN and the environmental groups including the Society of Wilderness. President MA stressed that the ideas of water saving and carbon reduction should be reenforced and realized for the sake of Taiwan's sustainable development, especially under the present circumstance of global climate change and the increasing frequencies of flood or drought in the globe as well as in Taiwan.

President of National Chi Nan University Her-Jiun SHEU said, the university has paid great effort on building a green campus and the result has been recognized and consequentially recommended as the demonstration school of Taiwan Green School by Environmental Protection Administration since 2006. The campus sewage management system collects and treats the used water and rainwater for irrigating the campus planting. This can reduce one fourth of the water consumption of the whole university per year.

Right now the globe is facing serious environmental change. Because of the peculiar geographical and hydrological features in Taiwan, the globe problem has more serious impact to Taiwan. Especially the post-88-flood reservoirs have severe siltation. Taiwan's water environment is highly difficult. Environmental Protection Administration promised to continue refining the water-saving and pollution-reduction system and its correlated supporting measures, and to draw the public attention to the crisis. President MA also demanded the government to strengthen the intra-cooperation responding to the problem.
