[Academic Activity] Academia Sinica Lecture Series: Lecture by Nobel Laureate Dr. Roger David KORNBERG (Chinese Version)

Academia Sinica Newsletter (2009/12/14) Dr. Roger David KORNBERG, the 2006 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, will give two lectures at Academia Sinica and one lecture at National Tsing Hua University on December 21, 22 and 23. The lectures, entitled “Beyond Genes: The Molecular Basis of Transcription”, "Genetic Chemistry at Near Atomic Resolution” and “The Expression of Genetic Information”, are part of the Academia Sinica Lecture series.

Dr. KORNBERG is a biochemist and professor of the Department of Structural Biology at Stanford University. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for his fundamental studies concerning how the information stored in genes is copied, and then transferred to those parts of the cells that produce proteins. Dr. KORNBERG was the first to create an actual picture of this process at the molecular level, in the important group of organisms called eukaryotes.

The Academia Sinica Lecture series, launched in December this year, is a new lecture series organized by President Chi-Huey WONG in an effort to build on the spirit of research and free exchange of scholarly knowledge fostered at the President’s Forum held on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Academia Sinica last year. Dr. Roger Yonchien TSIEN, a 2008 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, was the first lecturer of the series. He delivered two keynote speeches between December 11 and 14.
