[Sci-tech Policy][Industrial] Taiwan – Panama Economic Conference: Both Sides Promised to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation (Chinese Version)

CNA-News / udn.com (2009/08/18) Taiwan Trade and Investment Delegation, led by Chairman of Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association Chung-Yu WANG, attended the 4th Joint Economic Cooperation Meeting between Taiwan and Panama (Panama, 17th to 18th-Aug.). The industries mentioned in the meeting included electric-information, communications, environmental protection industry and creative industry. Main topics during the meeting included technical exchanges and cooperation opportunities regarding e-government, digital learning and wireless broadband.

The meeting was co-hosted by Chairman of Chinese International Cooperation Association Chung-Yu WANG and Acting Chairman of Consejo Nacional de la Empresa Privada (CONEP, National Council of Private Enterprises) Antonio FLETCHER. Over 50 industrial representatives from both countries participated the meeting and discussed about the new opportunities of Taiwan – Panama innovative sci-tech industrial cooperation.

During the meeting, Executive Director of Camara Panameña de Tecnología y Comunicación (CAPATEC, Panama Communication Technology Association) Juan Carlos URIBE introduced the general situation about communication industry in Panama; Head of the Group of Public Information Security, Panama government, Adolfo FABREGA explained eGovernment and eEducation plans in Panama. Vice Manager General of MiTAC Ke-Hsiung CHUNG gave speech on “Electrical Systems Integration: eEducation, eGovernment and eBusiness”; Gemtek President Yaw-Geng CHAU talked about the development and application situation of wireless broadband WIMAX in Taiwan; former Chair of Trade Representative at Panama's Ministry of Commerce Leroy SHEFFER introduced the economic and trade environment in Panama; Vice Minister of Panama Ministry of Commerce Ricardo QUIJANO and R.O.C. Ambassador in Panama Simon S. Y. KO both stood for each country and addressed in the opening of the meeting, praising the long-term friendship between two countries and emphasizing both governments' determination to further the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
