[Report of Honor][EE] Academia Sinica Academician Chenming HU and Academician Tingye LI Awarded 2009 IEEE Honors Medals (Chinese Version)


Academia Sinica Newsletter (2009/08/10) 2009 IEEE Honors Ceremony held on June 25 in Los Angeles, Academician Chenming HU awarded IEEE Jun-ichi Nishizawa Medal for his technical contributions to MOS device reliability, scaling of CMOS and compact device modeling. And Academician Tingye LI awarded IEEE Edison Medal for his leadership, vision, and pioneering contributions in the field of broadband optical fiber communications.

Academician HU’s seminal work on MOS reliability and device modeling has had enormous impact on the continued scaling of electronic devices, enabling smaller yet more functional and higher-performance integrated circuits. Academician HU’s work has addressed reliability and scaling issues with models and simulation tools that are critical to current predictive capabilities in the semiconductor industry.

One of the most well-known individuals in optical fiber communications, Academician LI has shaped the lightwave network infrastructure we know today. With a career spanning over 50 years, Academician LI’s technical contributions, insight and leadership have led to innovations and advancements resulting in high-speed commercial telecommunication transmission systems. Optical fiber technology enables a huge increase in transmission capacity compared to copper-wire and radio-wave methods and provides the capacity to accommodate ever-increasing amounts of Internet traffic.
