[物理][獲獎捷報] 中研院雷干城院士當選美國藝術與科學院院士
中研院今日（4月27日）發佈新聞稿，表示欣聞中研院雷干城院士當選美國藝術與科學院院士。
據中研院，擁有229年歷史，素以學術研究深刻影響美國政府決策而受世人景仰的學術機構「美國藝術與科學院」（American Academy of Arts & Sciences）於4月20日公布2009年新選院士名單，而第27屆數理科學組雷干城院士榮耀入榜。
據中研院，美國藝術與科學院今年從28州以及11個國家中，共選出212位新任院士與19位外國榮譽院士。新任院士包括科學家、法學家、作家、藝術家、企業經營者、以及慈善機構領袖等等，年齡分佈從33歲到83歲。雷干城院士於1968年進入美國加州大學伯克萊校區就讀，1977年獲得博士學位後，曾任職過 IBM、貝爾實驗室、賓西凡尼亞大學。其專長是物理學，目前擔任美國加州大學伯克萊校區物理系教授，以及伯克萊勞倫斯國家實驗室分子鑄造所理論組主任。雷干城院士曾經獲得古根漢獎金（Guggenheim Fellowship,1989年-1990年）、美國能源部獎（持久出色科研,1993年；出色工作,1995年）、美國物理學會計算物理拉曼奬 （1996年）、美國物理學會表面物理Davisson-Germer獎（1999年）、前瞻學會納米科技費曼獎（2003年）。並且他曾獲選為美國科學院院士（2005年）、美國科學協進會會士（2006年）。
中研院表示，雷干城院士於2005年擔任國立台灣大學特聘教授，於2008年當選中研院數理科學組院士。

[Physics][Report of Honor] Academician Steven LOUIE elected Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences
In the newsletter released today (27th-Apr.), Academia Sinica expressed the gratification about the news that Academician Steven LOUIE has been elected a Fellow of American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
The American Academy of Arts and Sciences has a 229-year history. Its projects and studies are responsive to the needs and problems of society, and always influential to the national policies of the United States.
According to Academia Sinica, Academician Steven G. LOUIE, Professor of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley, and Senior Faculty Scientist and Director of the Theory Facility of the Molecular Foundry at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, has been elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Academy announced on 20th-Apr., which makes Prof. LOUIE one of 212 new Fellows and 19 Foreign Honorary Members elected to the prestigious US Academy this year.
Prof. LOUIE, ibid., is an accomplished theoretical physicist who has been associated with UC Berkeley since 1968. During his career he has worked at the IBM Watson Research Center, Bell Laboratories, University of Pennsylvania, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Throughout his career, Prof. LOUIE has won many awards including the US Department of Energy Award for Sustained Outstanding Research in Solid State Physics (1993); the Aneesur Rahman Prize for Computational Physics (1996) and the Davisson-Germer Prize in Surface Physics (1999) of the American Physical Society; and the Richard P. Feynman Prize in Nanotechnology from the Foresight Institute (2003). He has been a Guggenheim Fellow (1989-90) and is also an Elected Fellow- of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2006) and an Elected Member of the US National Academy of Sciences (2005).
In 2005, said Academia Sinica, he was a Distinguished Visiting Chair Professor at National Taiwan University and was elected an Academia Sinica Academician in 2008.
