「得失心」翻譯成 "the mind of gain and loss" 如何?

在聖嚴法師自在語 ( http://mepopedia.com/forum/read.php?131,1230 )的英譯中把「得失心」翻成 the mind of gain and loss。我覺得很簡潔但又有些疑問。

我的疑問主要是:把得失心的「心」翻成 the mind,其中的用意或意思為何?

Hi,
I'm an oversea student from ANU.
let me explain this easy theory to you.

mind-can be interpret as you thought. if we want to say somebody always have a lot of thought, we say he changes his mind.

Here's an example.

(can i come back to get the refund if i found it's not suitable for me later??) a woman said
"oh, it's okay to change your mind. you're always welcomed to do this"

also . if you want to describe some view, concept.
just simply use (CONCEPT)+of

concept of value, concept of gain or lose.

i hope it can help you

I think this translation is fine.

If we use heart, it will be "the heart of gain and loss", which is somewhat awkard in English in my opinion.

English and Chinese are VERY different, I don't believe there is a perfect translation for every word or phrase.

We can say Gain and Loss is a state of mind, and so we use mind instead of heart.

But I will say it is mainly due to cultural variation. For example, in Chinese, it is In one stone kill 2 birds, but in English, it is kill 2 birds in one stone.
