[Interdisciplinary][Aerospace] TAIWAN NCTU Rocket “HTTP-Alpha” launched Successfully (Chinese Version)

NCTU Latest News (2010/09/27) The Rocket “HTTP-Alpha”, developed by Professor Jong-Shinn WU, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), and his interdisciplinary, cross-institute team for over two years, has launched successfully in the middle of September. This hybrid rocket reaching eight kilometers above the ground was considered to set a firm initial step for the academic research and development of hybrid rocket systems in Taiwan. The name “HTTP” consists of the four initials of the city names or county names where the affiliated research institutes are located: Hsingchu, Tainan, Taipei and Pingtung; it also symbolizes the unbounded possibilities that we can unfold in this domain, with referring to the internet.

Professor Jong-Shinn WU thinks, the physics and engineering researchers in Taiwan have been lack of teamwork training, so that the researchers always excel in the development of individual modules and rarely complete massive and integrated project which demands for teamwork. It has been seen that more and more universities in the globe have succeeded in launching their own hybrid rockets; Professor WU thus decides to build a rocket system and choose National Chiao Tung University as the base.

Professor Jong-Shinn WU, who was also the principal investigator of the pace-setting research project for Sounding Rocket No. 11, invited researchers from the areas of machinery, electronics, materials and so on, including Tsung-Lin CHEN (Associate Professor, NCTU), Ming -Tzu HO (Associate Professor, National Cheng Kung University), Huiwen WU (Professor, National Pingtung University of Science and Technology), Hsin-Piao LIN (Professor, National Taipei University of Technology), Matthew Smith (Dr., National Center for High-Performance Computing) etc., and their team members, to the construction project. The project lasts for two years, growing from scratch. From the promoting system, framework, flight computer, remote control and communication system, to the simulations and data analysis, 99% of the materials and designs of the construction are contributed in Taiwan. The project is sponsored by National Space Organization (NSPO), and its purpose is to support the aerospace and atmospheric sciences in the future. After the launch, via the remote communication system of the rocket, the relevant data will be transmitted to the ground station, finalizing the performance test and begin to collect the data.
