[Sci-tech Policy][Energy] Renewable Energy Development Bill Completed Third Reading at the Legislative Yuan (Chinese Version)

Awakening News Network (2009/06/13) “Renewable Energy Development Bill” was completed the third reading at the Legislative Yuan on 12th-Jun., 2009. The government has thereby promised the purchase, profit and cost recovery with respect to solar energy, biomass energy, wind power, hydraulic power etc. in order to encourage the green power industry. Taipower will shift the extra cost of purchasing the renewable energy to the electricity tariff, as the consequence of which each electric power consumer in Taiwan is estimated to have to pay 2% more than before per month in average.

The government and the political parties generally believe that the completion of the bill's third reading is a good news to the development of green energy in Taiwan. However, the environmental protection parties urge that the promotion of ideas is different from the realiztaion of them. To encourage people to use green energy, more supporting measures are required.

The Reneable Energy Development Foundation will be set under the bill to support the research, development and promotion of renewable energy and its relevant tehniques and equipments. The funding sources are the big power plants such as Taipower's power plants. If necessary, the government would interfere with the budget of the foundation.
