[Medical] Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital Finds Novel Metastatic Marker （Chinese Version）

According to China Times, cited in China Times E-paper (2009/05/20)，Departments of Urology, Medical Research, Surgery, and Pathology of Tungs' Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital reported finding a novel blood marker for metastatic cancers. By means of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), it becomes detectable with blood sample alone in what stage the cancer is and whether the cancer has metastasized. This novel blood analysis method is applicable to most kinds of cancers, and quite helpful with cancer test, cure and after treatment. Now the method is under application for patent in Taiwan, the USA et al. The result is to present as the cover feature in May issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

The study indicates that cancer cells, especially the aggressive or metastatic ones, secrete the novel serum biomarker into blood. Based upon animal experiments, the antisense gene of the tumor blood biomarker can prohibit the metastasis. The biomarkers for metastatic cancers in blood is very critical to cancer test, cure and after treatment. The study's novel blood biomarke, contributing more accurate methods for cancer's early diagnosis and stage division, is a big breakthrough in cancer prediction technology, as well as is an outstanding contribution to medicine at all.

The novel metastatic marker is likely to become globally applied in every hospital in the world. The achievement of the study is also a great benefit to lifting Taiwan's academic status in international medical science.
