[Medicine] China Medical University Invents Novel Anti-cancer Drug (Chinese Version)

Now News, CNA News & udn.com (2010/03/16) China Medical University and NSC present a novel anti-cancer drug targeting breast cancer, ovarian cancer, brain tumor, colorectal cancer, etc. After seven years of mice experiments, the invention has licensed to a local pharmaceutical factory on March 16. If the further procedure is completed, the drug must greatly enhance the present anti-cancer treatment.

Professor Sheng-Chu KUO of China Medical University and the cross-institute team (members including Professor Che-Ming TENG, National Taiwan University, Professor Kuo-Hsiung LEE, North Carolina State University, US, and so on) has spent seven years on an anti-cancer candidate oral and intravenous injection drug CHM 2133-P. CHM 2133-P is an insulin-like growth and inhibition factor; its multiple-targeting mechanism can prohibit angiogenesis, wither cancer cells and lift immunocompetence. Now the drug has been through animal experiments. After the human test, the drug may enter the market and offer new hope for cancer patients.

The licensed drug manufacturer said, the pre-clinical stage and the clinical stage of the tests are expected to complete in five years, after which the technology will be transferred to global drug manufacturers, who will carry out the third stage and the marketing.
