[Information & Communications] Mobile TV Will Be Licensed by the End of 2010 (

The Liberty Times (2010/02/25) National Communications Council (NCC) announced that NCC had formed a team for drafting the mobile TV regulations. The regulations will be announced approximately in the middle of the year and soonest licenses will be granted by the end of the year. A mobile TV license will allow for fifteen to twenty channels, and there will be two licenses to be granted. According to NCC, two licenses may be granted at once, but it is also possible to grant one first. NCC will invite public bidding in the later half of the year; the tenders can be teamed up with multiple companies.
Besides, NCC told the public as well that wireless TV services will be comprehensively ceased in 2012. As for the promotion problem of setting STB (Set Top Box), NCC stressed that two options have been made, either granting subsidy to all the households, or only to the low-income households. The two options will be referred to the Executive Yuan's final determination.
