[Medical] New Medicine for AIDS about to Enter Clinical Trial Stage in Taiwan (Chinese Version)

The Liberty Times & China Times E-paper (2009/12/12) The new medicine for AIDS invented by the leading expert of the field Dr. David Da-i HO is about to enter the second stage of the trial, human experiment, in Taiwan. TaiMed Biologics Inc. announced on 11th-Dec. that the application for Department of Health's approval for clinical trial of the novel anti-AIDS drug TMB-355, whose follow-up R&D had been exclusively authorized to TaiMed Biologics by Genentech in the US, had passed; main hospitals in Taiwan including National Taiwan University Hospital, Taipei Veterans General Hospital,Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, E-Da Hospital, China Medical University Hospital etc. will begin the clinical trial.

The new medicine for AIDS TMB-355 is an IgG4 monoclonal antibody which can merge with the surface molecules of cells CD4 to block the virus from entering, and replicating in, the cells. Hence it's not only a cure but also a prophylaxis, different from the traditional medicines which mostly cut off the individual virus replication chains after the cells are infected and hence are less efficient. Therefore, beside of applying the medicine to AIDS treatment, TaiMed Biologics plans to advance the dosing. Being an prophylactic medicine, TaiMed Biologics has obtained three-million-US-dollar sponsorship from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation via the mediacy of the most important AIDS research center, Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, led by David Da-i HO. The first period of clinical trial will begin in the summer of 2010, and optimistically the result may occur in five to six years. Once the R&D of the medicine reaches the success, it will have to be offered to the third world countries for cost price.
