[Sci-tech Policy] Taichung Software Park to Break Ground in May: City Government (Chinese Version)

CNA - Focus Taiwan (2012/01/27) A software development park in Taichung is scheduled to break ground in May, with construction expected to be completed in April 2013, the Taichung city government said Friday.

The software park, which will be located in the Dali District in the southwestern part of the city, is expected to create about 5,000 jobs after it starts operations, according to an estimate by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

The Executive Yuan issued a greenlight last December to the software park investment proposed by the ministry, in which the total investment is expected to reach NT$8 billion (US$267 million).

The software development park, which will cover 4.96 hectares, is expected to create a cluster of high-tech firms in Taichung and upgrade the municipality's industrial development, the MOEA said.

Taichung Deputy Mayor Chia-chi HSIAO said the software park is expected to attract software designers, cloud-computing developers, animation creators and other high-tech firms.

HSIAO said the project is also planning to build a 19,800 square-meter park to provide improved leisure activities in Dali District.

The deputy mayor said the land designated for the software industrial zone had been idle for some time and the investment is expected to make better use of the city's resources.

In addition to creating more jobs, the government also expects the new industrial park to generate about NT$15 billion in production value, according to a blueprint for the project.
