[Academia-Industrial Cooperation][Energy] NTUST and LiteOn Open Power Supply System Research Center (Chinese Version)

Taipei Times (2012/01/05) National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) launched a research center on its campus on January 4 with the aim of developing pioneering power supply systems.

In collaboration with LiteOn Technology Corp., one of the world’s top three power supply manufacturers, the LiteOn and NTUST Power Electronics Center (LNPEC) will be a “win-win” development for both parties and the power supply industry, Yu-kang LO (羅有綱), the LNPEC’s director, said on the sidelines of an event to unveil the facility.

The center will carry out research and development in “low cost and high efficiency” power supply system, including next-generation power conversion techniques, high-performance server power and renewable energy power conversion.

However, the center will mainly target intelligent power node management that can be applied to the power supply for cloud-computing data centers, LO said. “This is also a great opportunity for the students to gain some on-the-job experience,” he said, adding that LiteOn would assign several veteran engineers to cooperate with them, in addition to providing an annual investment of NT$10 million (US$330,250).

If the LNPEC project works well, LiteOn could consider establishing similar research centers at both National Taipei University of Technology and National Cheng Kung University in Greater Tainan.
