[Green Energy] Penghu Casino Referendum Not Passed; Green Energy Becomes the Focus of Penghu's Future Development (Chinese Version)

Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily News & China Times E-paper (2009/09/27) Penghu Casino Referendum was turned down on 26th-September. The citizens voted against gambling, and the local government showed absolute esteem to the decision. The government said, casino was only one option. The center of Penghu's development is marine economy. The fail of the Casino Referendum will not stop the development. In the future, Penghu local government will cooperate with the central government, making Penghu a green-energy as well as low-carbon island, which is expected to become the special feature of Penghu's tourism.

Executive Yuan in the national “Low-Carbon Island Plan” already has interest in Penghu for its “wind” and “ocean,” and has planned to make Penghu a low-carbon model community for the later nation wide promotion. Bureau of Energy, Industrial Technology Research Institute, Water Resource Agency, Tourism Bureau, Council of Agriculture etc. will cooperate on the project. The initial stage will last for four years with a budget of 160 million NT dollars. The 500-hm model park will encompass themes such as wind power, sea water desalinization, solar power, tidal wave power, underground reservoir and so on.
