[Environmental] Taiwan Takes Part in the World Wide Views Meeting on Global Warming (Chinese Version)

Awakening News Networking (2009/09/26) World citizens from 38 countries will participate in the World Wide Views (WWViews) meeting on global warming on 26th-September, including citizens in Taiwan. The meeting is to last for one single day; 12 issues under four major themes are to be defined and communicated among the participants. The result is going to be shared with the citizens from the other 37 countries; also it will be referred to the UN Climate Change Negotiations (COP15), which take place in Copenhagen in December 2009, for reference.

This year's WWViews on Global Warming is the first-ever, globe-encompassing democratic deliberation in world history. This is also the first time that Taiwan is invited to the meeting as a participant. The event in Taiwan is to be co-hosted by official, non-governmental and academic institutes including Executive Yuan-Environmental Protection Administration, Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy, NTU-College of Social Sciences etc. Four major topics of this meeting are: “Climate change and its consequences,” “Long-term goal, urgency and commitment,” “Dealing with greenhouse gas emissions” and “The economy of technology and adaptation.” 12 issues under these four topics raised on 25th-September are to be fully discussed and determined, the result of which will also be gradually announced online to the world after the end of the meeting. Taking this opportunity, people can know about how the same issues are regarded and reacted upon in various places.

People in Taiwan has shown great enthusiasm. More than seven hundred people have registered for attendance, 125 among which are selected as representatives to raise suggestions.
