[Report of Honor][Chemistry] Academia Sinica President Chi-Huey Wong to Receive 2012 Arthur C. Cope Award for Organic Chemistry (Chinese Version)

Academia Sinica Newsletter (2011/09/06) The American Chemical Society announced September 5 that Academia Sinica President Chi-Huey WONG will be awarded the 2012 Arthur C. Cope Award for outstanding achievement in the field of organic chemistry. President WONG will receive the award at the American Chemical Society National Meeting in March 2012 in San Diego. President WONG will also give a lecture during the fall 2012 National Meeting in Philadelphia.

The Arthur C. Cope Award is considered to be one of the highest honors in the field of organic chemistry. President WONG has been recognized for his outstanding research in the field, especially for his pioneering development of new synthetic methods using enzymes, programmable and automated oligosaccharide synthesis, and preparation of homogeneous glycoproteins. President WONG is well known for his development of green methodology for carbohydrate synthesis which has enabled the synthesis of complex carbohydrates. His work has shaped the development of a new field in chemistry and also led to the development of new tools and products to help tackle cancer and infectious diseases.

The Arthur C Cope Award was established in 1973 to commemorate the late Head of the Department of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since 1986, the prize has been awarded annually to outstanding organic chemists around the world. President Wong is the 35th recipient of the award and the first Taiwanese to receive the prize.

Throughout his career President WONG has received numerous honors, including the U.S. Presidential Young Investigator Award in Chemistry, U.S. Presidential Green Chemistry Award, International Carbohydrate Award, International Enzyme Engineering Award, American Chemical Society Claude Hudson Award in Carbohydrate Chemistry, American Chemical Society Award for Creative Work in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, F. A. Cotton Medal, and Humboldt Senior Scientist Research Award.
