[International Cooperation] Taiwan-France Electric Vehicle Seminar Focuses on Trends (Chinese Vresion)

CNA - Focus Taiwan (2012/10/18) A Taiwan-France forum on the electric vehicle sector opened in Taipei on October 17, attracting hundreds of experts and industry representatives from the two countries.

The Taiwan-France Automotive Industry Cluster Exchange Seminar is focusing this year on future trends in electric vehicle technology and how businesses can benefit from those trends globally, the organizers said.

Taiwan has accumulated many strengths in the information and communication technology industry, and now it also aims to be a major player in green technology, said Jet SHU, an adviser to the industrial technology department under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, one of the organizers.

"This is a good opportunity to forge research, commercial and partnership opportunities," said SHU, adding that Taiwan can provide high-quality components for hybrid or electric vehicles.

Over 20 French industry experts and representatives have been invited to participate in the forum, which will be followed by roughly 80 business-to-business meetings that are expected to further solidify cooperation, the organizers said.

The French delegation includes representatives from Lyon Urban Truck & Bus (LUTcool smiley, Renault, Volvo AB, Schneider Electric and the Union Technique de l'Automobile du Motocycle et du Cycle.

Christophe COLLETTE, Manager at LUTB, noted that the French government launched competitiveness clusters for the sector in 2005, an initiative that brings together companies, research centers and educational institutions to develop synergy and cooperative efforts.

Since then, 480 projects have been certified, with a global research and development budget of 1.2 billion euros (US$1.57 billion), he added.

Attending the event from Taiwan are representatives from the Taiwan Automotive Research Consortium, the Hua-chuang Automobile Information Technical Center Co. (HAITEC), Delta Electronics Inc., Chroma ATE Inc. and Fukuta Elec. & Mach. Co., the organizers said.
