[International Participation][Medicine] Taiwan to Host International Ultrasound Congress in 2017 (Chinese Version)

CNA (2011/08/30) Taiwan has won the right to host the 2017 World Congress of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology ( WFUMB ), the Bureau of Foreign Trade said in a statement Tuesday.

Taiwan applied to host the event at the organization's 2009 congress and after an aggressive lobbying effort, was voted as the meeting's 2017 host at this year's congress held in Vienna from Aug. 26 to 29.

A delegation of about 30 people from Taiwan, led by Shin-cheh CHEN, President of the Chinese Taipei Society of Ultrasound in Medicine ( SUMROC ), attended the event.

With the assistance from the Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Austria, the SUMROC held a "Taiwan Night" in Vienna during the congress to help press Taiwan's case.

Cheng-wen CHIANG, the former head of the society, hosted "Taiwan Night," and CHEN and Lien-gene CHEN, Taiwan's representative in Austria, spoke at the event, expressing their hopes that Taipei would be chosen to host the 2017 World Congress.

The WFUMB, an international nongovernmental organization, was established in 1973 and has chapters in Europe, Asia, the Americas. The SUMROC joined the organization in 1991.
