[Academics] NTU Pursues Cooperation with Top Universities in U.S. (Chinese Version)

The China Post (2011/08/25) & CNA (2011/08/24) National Taiwan University (NTU) President Si-chen LEE arrived in the United States with other university officials Tuesday (August 23), hoping to establish ties with some of America's top universities and academic institutions, and to raise money from the alumni.

The delegation will visit Stanford University and four University of California campuses, starting with UC Irvine, followed by UCLA, San Francisco and Berkeley.

LEE said the trip is partly aimed at helping NTU reach its new goal to become one of the world's top 50 universities, after it successfully broke into the top 100 in 2009 when it was ranked 95th in the Times Higher Education QS World University Ranking.

Setting up cooperation with top universities overseas will help it attain the goal by boosting the school's academic capacity and paving the way for it to become a top international research institution, LEE said.

Besides, NTU plans to set up a sustainable fund for the university's development, LEE said. He wants to urge the alumni to donate 100 U.S. dollars per year so that the fund could be raised up to the scale of 15 billion NT dollars in 30 years.
