[Aerospace & Defense Tech] Aerospace Show Takes Place in Taipei to Lure More Business (Chinese Version)

CNA - Focus Taiwan & China Post (2011/08/10) Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition (TADTE) 2011 takes place from August 11 to 14 at Taipei World Trade Center as part of the government's effort to generate more business in the field.

Some 90 exhibitors from around the world have registered to display a range of aerospace and military products at 689 booths at the biennial trade show, according to the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) website. The exhibitors include U.S. defense contractor Raytheon; American global aerospace, defense, security, and advanced technology company Lockheed Martin Corp., Taiwan's state-run Aerospace Industrial Development Corp.; and unmanned aerial system specialist Carbon-Based Technology Inc.

One of the highlights of the show this year will be the Pavilion of National Defense. At the pavilion, a total of 161 items either developed or newly procured will be showcased to help the public better understand the current trends in national defense and the government's effort in promoting military modernization, according to Shao-ho LO, Spokesman of the Ministry of National Defense, one of the 90-some participants of the event. The displays will include war robots and military computers that can be jointly developed by the military and private sectors. The Ministry of National Defense also puts on a display of the Hsiung Feng-III anti-ship cruise missile in the pavilion's weapon system area. According to Wu-ying CHIANG, the Hsiung Feng Project Vice Director under the MND's Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology, the latest supersonic missile can easily penetrate an enemy's naval vessel and make a ship sunk within one or two strikes by the lethal anti-ship cruise missile, which has a very high success rate. Besides, a model display of AMS-2 (a particle detector searches for anti-matter and dark matter placed on the International Space Station; the project is a collaboration of 16 countries under the direction of the U.S.'s Department of Energy and its principal director is Samuel Chao Chung TING), whose core equipment, the electronic data processing system was devised by the Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, was exhibited as well.

Since disaster response and management technology becomes an emerging issue during the past few years, some exhibitors also present the relevant products such as unmanned aircraft systems equipped with camera or life detector.

In addition, one-on-one meetings will be set up between local companies and eight foreign buyers from Singapore, Spain, Kazakhstan, the Czech Republic, the United States, Japan and Malaysia to discuss the purchase of items such as civil aircraft simulators and navigation systems and equipment.
