[Food Technology] National Chung Hsing University Invents Grain-bugs Killing Machine on Production Line (Chinese Version)

PTS News Online (2010/12/24) National Chung Hsing University Invents the first insects killing machine on the grain production line in the world. The machine wipes out all the eggs in the grain without leaving any toxic residue behind. The Chihshang Farmers’ Association in Taitung County is the first association introducing the machine, expecting to reduce the returns and to reassure the consumers of the product quality through the promotion and demonstration of the machine.

It is easy to observe the weevils, also called rice-bugs, in polished rice stored in the folk houses. This kind of bugs lays eggs in rice and they incubate under the contact with air and the exposure in the proper temperature. It is difficult to wipe out the eggs in the process of rice production, and hence the bugs problem troubles the rice industry a lot.

To resolve the problem, National Chung Hsing University invents the first and the only grain insects killing machine in the world, which kills all the eggs on the production line with the high frequency oscillation heating technology. This kind of machine is safer in compare with the adoption of chemical insecticide which may leave toxic residue behind. The processed rice can remain bug-free for over two years.

The Chihshang Farmers’ Association in Taitung County has introduced the machine in East Taiwan. The association wish to promote and demonstrate the machine to the other farmers' associations or the independent rice mills in East Taiwan, so that they can together reinforce the reputation of East Taiwan rice by making themselves able to offer bug-free product.
