[International Participation][sanitation] The Tenth Taipei International Conference on HIV/AIDS Held to Enhance Prevention and Control through International Interchanges (Chinese Version)

Taiwan Lihpao (2010/09/23) The Center for Disease Control (CDC), Department of Health, R.O.C., hosted the Tenth Taipei International Conference on HIV/AIDS in Howard International House Taipei between September 24 and 25. It was expected that through the international interchanges in the event the disease prevention and control in Taiwan could be enhanced.

The 2010 theme of the World AIDS Day is “Universal Access and Human Rights”. Accordingly, the Tenth Taipei International Conference on HIV/AIDS sets “the implement of comprehensive care & human rights” as the core issue. The five topics of the conference are: (1) “HIV/AIDS Epidemiology and Control Strategy”, (2) “HIV/AIDS Prevention for MSM (men who report sexual contact with other men)”, (3) “HIV/AIDS Prevention for Sex Workers”, (4) “HIV/AIDS Prevention for IDUs (injection drug users)” and (5) “Care, Support, and Human Rights for People Living with HIV/AIDS”. Experts from all over the world gather at the event and discuss or give speeches around these topics. It is expected that through the interchanges more successful experiences in the globe would be introduced in Taiwan.

The conference was first convened in 1988 and was held every two years since then. This year’s conference was the tenth conference, attracting more than seven hundred participants which made a new record, implying that the attention to the issue of HIV/AIDS prevention was growing.
