[International Cooperation][Jurisprudence] Professor Chi-Shing Chen at NCCU College of Law participates in FP7 (Chinese Version)

NCCU Campus News (2010/06/19) Professor Chi-Shing CHEN and the team at College of Law, National Chengchi University, proactively joins in the group of the biometric technology and ethics in Italy under FP7, (the seventh-staged Framework Program, EU).

Professor Chi-Shing CHEN cooperates with the Centre for Science, Society, and Citizenship (CSSC) in Italy and participates in the Director of the center Dr. Elimio MORDINI's RISE project ( Rising Pan-European and International Awareness of Biometrics and Security Ethics), which aims at drawing international attention to the ethical issues of the biometric technology and application.

Professor CHEN points out, the biometric technology develops rapidly and the application scope is very broad. However, the attention to its ethical concerns such as privacy and ethical controls does not catch up with the development. The program aims at promoting the international dialogues about the issues and forming a cross-areas and cross-fields platform of discussion.

“It is not difficult to take a part in FP7”, says CHEN. He stresses, FP highly requires interdisciplinary collaboration, and, if the researchers know their own main focus of research clearly, they can easily find a suitable part for themselves in the FP programs or a suitable partners in FP. He also recommends the website of CORDIS (The community Research and Development Information Service), in which a lot of cooperation information in EU is available.

By the way, CHEN stresses, RISE aims at promoting the dialogues in Asia through Taiwan, especially the dialogues with China. He suggests that the team can develop certain forms of cooperation with China first, and then enter the international academic circle of this field with China together.
