[Wildlife Conservation] Individual Coral Reef Found in Pratas Islands (Chinese Version)

CNA News (2010/04/25) & udn.com (2010/04/22) Marine National Park Headquarters, Construction and Planning Agency, Ministry of the Interior, announced that an individual coral reef was found in the lagoon of Pratas Islands (Dongsha Islands). The rich coral eco-system indicates that the task of coral reef restoration was successful. Marine National Park Headquarters said, with the great encouragement of the discovery, the restoration task must be more enthusiastically carried out.

Marine National Park Headquarters said, the conservation officers discovered the giant coral reef about eight kilometers away from the east tip of Pratas during their latest cruise. After their careful diving investigation, they found great biodiversity in the coral eco-system, with various kinds of corals, fishes, and molluscs. With such a discovery, Marine National Park Headquarters believed that the goal of the coral restoration plan must be eventually accomplished. The conservation officers said, they will vigorously investigate the atoll marine ecology in Pratas sea area, trying to find more effective ways to restore the original spectacle in the area.
