[Aerospace] Taiwan and Russia Succeed in Launching Satellite Tatyana II (Chinese Version)

Radio Taiwan International & China Times E-paper (2009/11/25) Satellite Tatyana II, supported both by Taiwan and Russia, was already launched on 17th-September. Although this project was an cooperation between Taiwan and Russia, Taiwan was absent in the cooperation contract; only the participant universities' names were showed. National Applied Research Laboratories said on 24th, owing to the lack of diplomatic tie, although indeed the project was a cooperation between Taiwan and Russia, in order to avoid political trouble, Taiwan signed the contract with Russia merely with the names of participant universities, National Cheng Kung University and National Central University.

At the press conference held by National Applied Research Laboratories, NARL, on 24th, it was reported that the project was definitely politically sensitive. After the launch on 17th-September, Russia expressed that the side expected Taiwan to hold a low-key in dealing with this project. To show the respect from our side, NARL said, we did not announce the news. Also, NARL said there should be a website introducing the whole procedure to the public, especially the role Taiwan played in this international event. Tatyana II was now at the stage of “initial orbiting test” until the midst of December, after which Russia side will be responsible for the test of scientific data transmission. At the meanwhile, NCKU will start he procedure of positioning track and data's download. It was expected that the relevant scientific experiments will be begun in March 2010.
