[Rice Processing] Hakka Sci-tech Team Invents New Debug Method-- Microwaving the Weevils (
Chinese Version)
Hakka TV (2009/11/19) Recently there is a breakthrough in rice processing technology in Taiwan has recently. In the past, chemical fumigation was the widely used method to deal with the rice weevils, but the method was not efficient and might cause the problem of chemical residues. A technology company in Hsinchu, owned by a Hakka, in its cooperation with National Chung Hsing University, has invented a new method-- microwave.
With certain parameters configured, rice is microwaved to kill the weevil eggs and then cooled immediately for packing. Just 20 seconds, not only the bug problem but also the mold spores are done away. The method is fast and safe. Simple operation, no chemical residues, and the quality of rice is preserved. This new method not only enhances the food safety but also help with rice export.
