[農業] 開發水果多樣性 屏科大研發星蘋果


台灣農民常因搶種導致價格低廉，屏東科技大學為此研發、引進國外適合台灣種植的新興果樹，以強化台灣水果多樣性，目前累積種類超過四百多種；本月（三）廿五日為研發轉種成功的星蘋果舉辦成果發表會。

致力引進新興果樹的屏科大農學院長顏昌瑞表示，台灣農民隨風潮種植的習慣導致大規模的生產而使價格崩跌，假若讓台灣水果的種類更多，可解決前述問題；且新興水果兼具高經濟價值以及觀光潛力，非常符合台灣現在的農業走向。

最近研發種植成功的星蘋果就是一例，星蘋果又名牛奶果，原產地在加勒比海，現在在東南亞國家相當容易看見，因為吃起來像柿子，適合臺灣人的口味，加上栽種容易，才會開始引進台灣，並著手改良、研發。屏科大團隊利用嫁接方式嘗試繁殖，大約兩年時間就會結果，且果樹對土壤選擇不嚴，不管在砂質土、石灰質土或者粘質壤土都能生長，種植時也幾乎不用噴灑農藥，非常容易上手。

[Agriculture] Improving Taiwan's Fruit Diversity, NPUST Develops Star Apple


Farmers in Taiwan always plant in trend, and this always leads to price collapse. National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, NPUST, thus introduces suitable foreign fruit plants into Taiwan, improving fruit diversity in Taiwan. So far over four hundred kinds have been introduced, including the Star Apple just for press demonstration on 25th-Mar., 2009.

Dean Chung-Ruey Yen of the College of Agriculture, NPUST, said that farmers' following trends induces large scale of simplex plantation, and what is following is price collapse. If there are more kinds of fruit plants in Taiwan, the previous problem will be solved. Besides, newly-introduced fruits possess high economic value and tourism potential, quite meeting Taiwan agriculture's future strike.

Newly-introduced Star Apple is an example. Star Apple, also called Milk Apple, tastes like persimmon. It came from Caribbean Sea originally, and became very common in South-East Asian countries. Because its persimmon-like flavor, which is agreeable to most of Taiwan people, added is that it is easy to plant, NPUST decides to introduce and improve Star Apple in Taiwan. The research team propagates Star Apple by grafting. It takes about two years to grow fruit. The plant is not selective regarding soils, and scarcely needs pesticides.
