[生態保育] 罕見熊鷹現蹤新店山區

神秘又美的熊鷹數日前在台北縣新店市廣興里出現，引起全台愛鳥人士的注意。這次罕見的熊鷹是由楊文陽在1月31日上午發現，第一個拍下熊鷹「鷹」姿的是邱昌萬，而消息傳出後，還有特別趕來新店，現年80歲、號稱國內最老的國寶級鳥類攝影人士的「順伯」林朝順。

熊鷹別名鷹鵰，又稱赫氏角鷹，是臺灣禽類中體型最大者，由於羽毛相當漂亮且被某些魯凱族等原住民視為勇氣與地位的象徵，所以易被獵捕，加上近年來人為開發、林相變更等造成的棲地破壞，目前族群數量僅餘4、500隻，屬於保育類一級瀕臨絕種的野生動物，主要棲息於臺灣東部及中、南部林相完整老熟之原始闊葉林或針闊葉混合林。

[Wildlife Conservation] Rare Hodgson's Hawk Eagle Observed in the Mountain area of Sindian

Mysterious and beautiful Hodgson's Hawk Eagle (Spizaetus nipalensis) was observed in Guansing Village, Sindian City, Taipei County. Bird lovers in Taiwan are very excited. Hodgson's Hawk Eagle was first found this time by Wenyang Yang (楊文陽) on the 31st-Jan. morning, whose picture was first taken by Changwan Qiu (邱昌萬). After the news was released, many bird photographers rushed to Sindian, including the most aged and respected “Uncle Shun” Chaoshun Lin (林朝順).

Hodgson's Hawk Eagle is usually called “Bear Eagle (熊鷹)”in Chinese. Sometimes it is called “Hawk Eagle (鷹鵰),”both indicating its large size of body. Hodgson's Hawk Eagle is the largest bird species in Taiwan, whose gallant feathers are taken for the symbols of courage and regal standing among aborigines like Rukai people. There's thus a demand for hunting, and the residence forests are damaged. There are now about four or five hundreds of remains estimated only. Hodgson's Hawk Eagle is a first class endangered species. The major habitat includes the well preserved old-growth broad-leaved forests or needle- and broad-leaved mixed forests in Eastern, Central and Southern Taiwan.
