中括號在 Werner S. Pluhar 英釋版中的意思

想了一陣，還是從這個簡單的問題開始好了。

讀了幾處出現中括號 [ ] 的地方，原本對其用法好像確定，但又變得不是很確定。

不過我想，基本上當該註解是譯者自己提供的，就以中括號標示。是嗎？

如果是的話，但有些在文中的譯者註解有點多而長，為什麼譯者能如何確定該那樣解釋呢？例如：

When [something determines the feeling of pleasure or displeasure and this] determination of that feeling is called sensation, this term means something quite different fro what it means when I apply it to the presentation of a thing (through the senses, a receptivity that belongs to the cognitive power).


呵呵，不過再讀一次(打了一次)也有點覺得，譯者對他的註解應該是有把握的。


所以基本上，上面的例句中 [something determines the feeling of pleasure or displeasure and this] 為譯者的說明，而 (through the senses, a receptivity that belongs to the cognitive power) 則為作者的說明。是嗎？


(這可以算「英文學習」嗎？)

中括號 [] 裡面的文字是譯者為了語氣通順以及完整表達翻譯不能表達之意的文字。
