[Cloud Computing] National Central University's Cloud Computing Platform Begins to Operate (<a href=http://mepopedia.com/forum/read.php?127,8647>Chinese Version</a>)

<i>NCU News</i> (2010/10/15) More and more research efforts have been dedicated to cloud computing, but there is still a lack of large-scaled testing centers for the application research and its actual measurements. The testing platform for cloud computing not only allows for the application researchers' autonomous deployment and control; its service of entrusted computing and storage also greatly benefits the conduct of the actual measurements of the clouding services and applications.

Hence, National Central University (NCU) with its Computer Center, Software Research Center and the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, establishes the Open Source Test Lab for Cloud Computing, providing with the computing capacity of a super computer and the updating services for its clients. After its inauguration, a total-solutions service of virtual hosting will be provided for the academia as well as the industries.

National Central University is quite experienced in the research and the operation of distributed systems, parallel systems, software engineering, high performance scientific calculating PC clusters, LCG Grid etc. Besides, the university also plays the role of GigaPop in the greater Taoyuan area, promoting the investigations and experiments of the relevant technologies. Center Director of NCUCC Jonathan LEE says, the center as an open source test lab can offer large cloud computing resources with the relevant knowledge the university is in possession of, the 10 GbE high speed internet established in the campus, and the integration structure & design. It is expected to proved cloud computing services sufficing the demand of a client-scale of over millions.

Institute for Information Industry (III) began to receive the financial support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs since 2010, which was also spent on NCU Open Source Test Lab for Cloud Computing, to enable the local companies to test their open source applications. III now for instance is renting the computing resources of the lab to help the subsidiary company of Trend Micro Tcloud Computing test its IaaS clouding operation platform Elaster.
