The China Post (2010/05/31) Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry (III), a joint government-private sector think tank, has won the World Information Technology and Service Alliance (WITSA) 2010 Chairman's Award for its achievements in narrowing the digital divide.

III Chairman Ching-tai SHIH said Sunday that the institute, along with six other organizations, received the seven ICT Excellence Awards at a gala staged by the 17th World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Amsterdam on May 28.

The WITSA presented the biennial awards to organizations with exceptional achievements within three broad categories public sector excellence, private sector excellence, and digital opportunity.

The III provides professional IT training in both the public and private sectors, develops programs to address the digital divide, creates digital opportunity centers in remote areas and internationally for developing countries, and provides services to small and medium enterprises, as well as to disadvantaged and handicapped groups, the WITSA said in statement on the occasion of the awards.
