<i>Rti</i> & <i>China Times E-paper</i> (2010/05/24) A cross-strait industrial meeting on biomedical cooperation took place in Taipei on May 25 and 26. Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Jung-Chiou HWANG, addressed on the opening ceremony, expressing the anticipation of the fruitful result from the cross-strait cooperation on biomedical development with Taiwan's high-quality talent resources and experience of industrialization and with Mainland China's big market and productivity. The meeting was co-hosted by Development Center for Biotechnology and Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association. About five hundred representatives from industrial, governmental and academical field participated in the event; topics including new drug development, clinical cooperation and intellectual property were covered.

Jung-Chiou HWANG said at the opening, a special team for the first bridging meeting for cross-strait cooperation on Chinese medicine was formed in December, 2008, via the mechanism of which several achievements or consensuses had been made including a marketing alliance, the promotion of Taiwan's concentrated preparations in the Haixi Spacial Zone (areas west to Taiwan Strait), cross-strait hospitals docking plan, etc. After the present industrial meeting, the interflows and cooperations between cross-strait biomedical industries could begin with the working group of cross-strait biomedical industries, so that the real businesses and cooperations could take place sooner. Actually, both sides planned to meet again to realize the details for further interflows and cooperations in July.

The delegation of Mainland China was led by Honorary President of Cross-Straits Medicine Exchange Association Luli HE; several governmental representatives from Ministry of Health and State Food and Drug Administration of the People's Republic of China were members of the delegation. Besides, many chiefs also joined the delegation, as well, including Vice President of Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits Min AN, Chair of the World Federation of Acupuncture-Mixibustion Societies, WHO, Liangyue DENG, President of China Medicinal Biotech Association Ziren XIAO, Vice President of China Association of Medical Equipment Zilin ZHAO, President of China Pharmaceutical Enterprises Association Mingde YU, President of China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine Shuting FANG. About twenty major biomedical enterprises such as Shanghai FosunPharma Group, Shanghai Biochip Co., Ltd., etc., sent representatives to attend the meeting with the delegation, too.
