<i>CNA News</i> (2010/05/210 China Medical University inaugurated a research center for sex hormone on May 21. The Chair Professor Chawnshang CHANG was invited to get stationed in the center, leading a team aiming at clarifying the correlations between androgens and gynecological cancers.

Chawnshang CHANG's team has proved the close relation between androngens and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and also discovered that curcumin derivatives obtained from ginger can suppress the formation of liver cancer without lowering the density of male hormone. The finding has been reported in <i>Science</i>. However, CHANG added, ginger itself cannot suppress the formation of liver cancer. It has to take the derivatives to effectively treat liver caner.

CHANG said, after stationed in the center for sex hormone of China Medical University, he planned to lead the team to gradually resolve the relations of androngens to various kinds of cancers such as bladder cancer, prostate cancer and gynecological cancers, etc. Especially he wished to find new clues for gynecological cancer treatment. The following research emphases would rest upon clarifying the mechanisms of these cancer types. The team has spent effort on the relation between androngens and gynecological cancer. CHANG wished more results could be obtained and the program could enter the stage of clinical experiments sooner.
