<i>CNA News</i>, <i>Now News</i> & <i>TTV</i> (2010/05/17) President Ying-jeou MA listens to EPA Minister Stephen SHEN's monthly report at the Office of the President on May 17, during which SHEN says the government plans to spend respectively 25 billion NT dollars on subsidy for green energy and energy-saving industry and 20 billion NT dollars on R&D. Added are also the supporting measures such as the sunroof plan etc. It is thus expected then that the technology of green industry in Taiwan will consequently enhanced, and one hundred and thirty thousand job opportunities by 2015 are estimated to be created due to the enhancement.

SHEN says, Taiwan relies on imports for energy, and the fossil fuel reserves are diminishing while its price is getting higher. Energy saving and renewable energies have become significant issues for the sustainability of the nation.

SHEN points out, green economy, especially the green energy industry from which we can greatly benefit with regard to energy safety, ecological demand and job opportunity creation, will play a central role in the international economic development in the future. The government will invest in the R&D of the key technologies of solar photovoltaic, LED, wind power, biological fuel, hydrogen and fuel cells, energy information and communications, electric cars, etc. The government wish to make Taiwan from an IT giant to an ET giant.

Besides, the renewable energy development act has adopted Feed-in-tarriff of Germany, i.e., to rise the electric fee for the general customers and to subsidize renewable power alluring enterprises into the industry. This will also help with the promotion of green industry.
