Academia Sinica Newsletter (2009/12/18) Academia Sinica holds a certificate conferral ceremony for this year's graduates of the Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) on December 22. This year there are a record number of nine graduates.

Launched in 2002, the TIGP program integrates the first-class facilities and top-notch faculty available at Academia Sinica into a learning environment where English is the first language. The program currently has 307 students enrolled in 9 PhD programs. Approximately half of the TIGP students enrolled in TIGP come from overseas (currently from 29 countries). TIGP is run by Academia Sinica in collaboration with Taiwan's top research universities. The certificate conferred by the Academy is given in addition to the diploma conferred by the collaborating university.

This years graduates including Dr. Cheng-Hsun HO, who recently published his research on nitrate sensors in plants in the top academic journal Cell, and Dr. Chia-Yu SU, who has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at Taipei Medical University, both remark on TIGPs international learning environment. A total of 45 papers were published by this years graduating TIGP students in journals that include PNAS, BMC Bioinformatics, Nucleic Acids Research, BioTechniques, Cell, Journal of Applied Physics, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society. This years graduates have taken up positions in institutions such as the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ottawa in Canada. Several graduates will continue their research as post-doctoral fellows at Academia Sinica.
