CNA - Focus Taiwan (2012/08/23) The Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations, a non-profit body under the Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, will host its annual Asia Conference in Taipei between August 24 and 28, organizers said on August 21.

Students from National Chengchi University, who won a competition to host the event, said they did so by showing their determination, presenting local cuisine to the judges and performing traditional dance last year to beat the other 10 bidders.

They said they are happy to bring the conference back to Taipei, which hosted the first such conference in 1992.

The conference brings together students from around the world and leaders in the fields of government, business, culture, and academia to exchange ideas on issues relevant to the Asia-Pacific region in economic, political and social fields.

Over 500 university students from around the world are expected to attend the conference, which features the theme -- Challenges and Prospects: Envisioning Global Transformations, the organizers said.

More than 100 speakers will address issues involving energy, environment, entrepreneurship and innovation during the five-day event, the organizers said.

In addition to seminars and speeches, the organizers have arranged tours to the Legislative Yuan, the Central News Agency, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and the National Theater and the Concert Hall.

The organizers said they have also invited NBA star Jeremy Lin, a Harvard graduate, to attend an entertainment night on August 28.
