<i>CNA - Focus Taiwan</i> (2012/07/26) Vice President Den-yih WU said July 26 the production value of Taiwan's biotech industry reached NT$240 billion (US$8 billion) last year, more than double the figure recorded in 2002, an indication that the industry is gaining ground.

The market value of biotech companies listed on the local bourse reached NT$280 billion last year, nearly quadruple the 2008 value, said WU at the opening ceremony of Bio Taiwan 2012, a conference and exhibition held to showcase Taiwan's biotechnology industry.

"Bio Taiwan," held July 26 to 29 at the Taipei International Convention Center, is expected to attract exhibitors from six countries, 1,000 pavilions and 600 companies.

Companies listed on the local bourse that will be exhibited at Bio Taiwan include: Maywufa Co., Chi Sheng Chemical Corp., G&E Herbal Biotechnology Co., Taiwan Biotech Co., Nang Kuang Pharmaceutical Co., Sinphar Group, among others.
