CNA Focus Taiwan (2012/07/18) Taiwan's Institute for Information Industry (III) signed a consulting contract in Vietnam Tuesday with the Hanoi municipal government to develop and deliver e-government solutions to the city.

Mei-li HSIAO, Director of international affairs at the institute, said Taiwan will help the Hanoi government establish a 5-10 year plan to gradually phase out the city's offline documentation system and introduce Taiwan's successful experience from the past 30 years in building an e-government system.

The deal, which will cover developing a strategy, a roadmap, and IT architecture and standards, was signed by HSIAO and Vu Tan CUONG, Director of Hanoi's Department of Information and Communication.

The institute has long promoted and nurtured an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Digital Opportunity Center in Vietnam (ADOC), HSIAO said, and she expected the new deal to help Taiwan establish even closer ties with Vietnam in the information technology sector and boost the presence of Taiwan's software in the country.

The ADOC is an initiative proposed by Taiwan in 2003 at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting , with the aim of reducing digital divides in the APEC region.
