[Information][Cross-strait] Kinmen-Xiamen Undersea Cables to Go into Service (<a href=http://mepopedia.com/forum/read.php?127,23801>Chinese Version</a>)

<i>Taipei Times</i> (2012/06/24) Two undersea cables between Taiwan's outlying Kinmen Island and China's Xiamen City are expected to enter service by the end of this year, Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom Co. said on June 23.

The Taiwanese telecom company made the remark following the recent completion of construction on the Taiwanese side earlier this month.

The two fiber optic cables have been connected to local exchange facilities from their two locations on the northwestern coast of Kinmen Island, Chunghwa Telecom said.

The cables are a joint venture between Chunghwa Telecom and China's three main telecom operators China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile, the Taiwanese company said, adding that construction on the Chinese side is still ongoing.

On the Chinese side, the cables will emerge on Xiamen Island and the city's Dadeng Island. The process is taking longer because three companies are involved, the Taiwanese company said.

Chunghwa Telecom expects the communication cables to enter service by the end of this year, after the construction process is fully completed and the operations are approved by Taiwan's National Communications Commission.
