<i>Council of Agriculture News</i> (2011/08/08) The Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, announced that to respond to the emerging food security issues induced by global warming and the exaggerating climate changes, Taiwan began to urge for the construction of an APEC Food Emergency Response Mechanism since a few years ago. The 2011 APEC Food Security Forum is going to take place in Taipei between August 9 and 11, 2011, to which 65 representatives from 18 APEC member states are expected to attend trying to find solutions for the construction of the mechanism as well as for the regional food security.

According g cording to the Council of Agriculture, the enhancement of cross-states cooperation and the demand of an international food security protection fence were both the significant conclusions in several nationwide food security conferences during the past two years. In okeep maintain aintain Taiwan's food securkeep Taiwan Taiwan being able to react to sudden natural disasters, the council began to urge for the APEC Food Emergency Response Mechanism at the occasions of APEC meetings on food security since 2010. Under the active conduction of the council's Minister Wu-Hsiung CHEN, the cross-states cooperation system became initiated for further deliberation at the First APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security held in Niigata, Japan in October 2010.

According to the Council of Agriculture, 2011 APEC Food Security Forum APEC Food Emergency Response Mechanism will begin on August 9 and last for three days. The forum aims at concluding the common consensuses on the collaboratory regional food storage management and operation. 65 representatives from Australia, Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippine, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, the U.S., Vietnam and Taiwan will make their attendance to the forum. Besides, the forum has obtained the sponsorship from the APEC via the organization's strict reviews, which indicates the regional recognition of the issue and Taiwan's hosting qualification.
