[Infotech & Internet] Yahoo News Platform Production Project Shifted to Taiwan (<a href=http://mepopedia.com/forum/read.php?127,1437>Chinese Version</a>)

<i>China Times E-paper</i> & <i>ZDNet</i> (2009/09/08) Yahoo is shifting its Yahoo News production team – product management, engineering and user-interface design team – overseas to Taiwan. Yahoo HQ will only retain the editorial practices.

Yahoo Asia Managing Director Rose TSOU says on 8th that Taiwan is selected to conduct the Yahoo News Production for the Global News team of Taiwan Yahoo is highly competent in R&D and planning, and for it can penetrate internet users' habitual inclinations and produce products such as “attitude ranking” and “poll center” prolonging users' time on site. However, <i>The Wall Street Journal</i> columnist Kara SWISHER comments that the decision Yahoo has made is actually based on the grounds such as cost control, redundancy minimization and global growth. In response to the comment, Yahoo Senior Vice President Jeff KINDER says that the decision is actually a creative response from Yahoo to the present global framework as well as part of Yahoo's plan to build the global press platform. He continues, the employees in Taiwan show the great passion in developing advanced new news products, which is the major reason for the decision to let Taiwan take the responsibility of Yahoo News.
No matter what, it is determined, according to Taiwan Yahoo, the personnel deployment will be done in one to two years, and the nine global news platforms and the twenty-six versions of Yahoo News will be integrated in a single platform with a single database. There will be at least 100 job offers with regard to web platform development and webpage design. Software design engineers and web design engineers will be the major demands.
