<i>China Times E-paper</i> (2009/09/05) Animal Technology Institute Taiwan succeeds in developing a novel biocatalytic desulfurization system which can produce bio-energy and fertilizers from swine waste and decrease the volume of waste water. Not only the total cost in swine farms is directly reducible, for the produced bio-gas can be applied to power generation and less money is needed on dealing with the less-volumed waste water; there's also the extra profit from fertilizers. Many swine farms are highly interested in the system.

The system uses microorganisms to oxidize hydrogen sulfide and obtain sulphur or sulfuric acid, which is one of the important raw materials of chemistry as well as one of the necessary materials of chemical fertilizers. The system can also decrease waste water and increase the efficiency of bio-gas power generation. The hydrogen sulfide in the pre-purified bio-gas can be filtered simply by passing through humidifier and bio-filter. Water washing machine and circulating water equipment are not required any more. Water saving and power production can be made possible at the same time. Ping-shun Swine Farm has adopted and been satisfied with the equipment. The farm said, the bio-gas managed with the desulfurization system made the machine rustless, prolonging the machine's service life and saving its repair cost.
