[Creativity] Kung-Tung Technical Senior High School Students Donate Their Bridge Collapse Alert Patent to Government (<a href=http://mepopedia.com/forum/read.php?127,11214>Chinese Version</a>)

<i>National Education Radio</i> (2011/03/22) Five students at Kung-Tung Technical Senior High School in Taitung invented an efficient bridge collapse alert system that can warn the approaching drivers of the bridge collapse immediately. The design was patented a few days ago and these students decided to donate the patent to the government for free.

Five students at Kung-Tung Technical Senior High School was inspired to develop the system when they saw the tragedies caused by 88 flood in 2009 that people fell in the rivers for bridge collapse. With the system, the alert lights and sounds will be activated immediately to warn the drivers approaching the bridge at the time point of bridge collapse. The design was patented and announced on March 11, after one and half year's reviewing.

Traditional bridge collapse alert uses sensitive infrared rays or laser to monitor the bridge status, but the sensitivity can be effected by various factors. The design of these electrical students applied principles of electrical circuits and invented a pattern that allowed for the modules to operate individually as well as serially connected. Besides, the system is not powered until bridge collapses, so the design is also very energy saving.
