[生醫科技] 中研院王惠鈞副院長金黃色葡萄球菌研究成果獲選為2008年焦點論文

中研院生物化學研究所特聘研究員兼副院長王惠鈞院士與美國學者共同領導的國際研究團隊，於2008年2月《科學》期刊所發表的一篇有關降膽固醇藥物可以抑制金黃色葡萄球菌的論文，日前為美國官方最重要的醫學研究機構「國家健康中心」 ( The National Institutes of Health, NIH) 甄選為2008年的焦點論文(Research Highlights of 2008)。

王惠鈞副院長在該篇論文中成功地應用X-光繞射方法，破解讓金黃色葡萄球菌色素成形的初步關鍵酵素之蛋白質結構。同時，研究團隊進一步分析分子結構，證實降膽固醇藥物可以干擾金黃色葡萄球菌之色素形成，確保人體健康。

[Bio-Medical] Academia Sinica VP Wang's Study into the Use of a Cholesterol-Lowering Drug against Staph Picked as NIH 2008 Research Highlight

Research on the ability of a cholesterol-fighting drug to weaken the virulence of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria published last year by an international team including Vice President Andrew Wang and two other scientists from Academia Sinica has been recognized as a "Research Highlight of 2008" by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Vice President Wang and his colleagues used x-ray crystallography to solve the protein structure of the enzyme that catalyzes the first critical step in Staphylococcus golden pigment formation and proved that a cholesterol-fighting drug can weaken the virulence of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.
